MUZAFFARGARH: Eight schoolchildren were injured seriously when the roof of their classroom in a private school collapsed at Chak 344/TDA of tehsil Chaubara in district Layyah on Thursday.

The children of pre-school were studying at Al-Rahman Grammar School when the roof collapsed on them. The injured children were transferred to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Chowk Azam, while the school management disappeared after locking the school building. The education department is unaware of the incident. Of the eight injured children, two are reportedly in a critical condition

Sources say most of the private school buildings across the district are in a dilapidated condition. The citizens demanded Deputy Commissioner Amira Baidar take action against the school administration.

HARASSMENT: A woman employee of the Govt Special Education Centre in Krore Lal Esan faced harassment from the driver of the special education department.

According to the first information report (FIR), registered with police, the bus driver, Iftikhar Ahmed, had been harassing Saima Bibi for the last two years. Police registered a case on her complaint.

PROTEST: The District Bar Association Layyah is protesting against the shifting of the only consumer court of the district to Vehari.

The lawyers demanded the authorities stop the transfer of the court to Vehari district, saying the lawyers would not allow the administration to take this anti-people step.

ACCIDENT: Two siblings died as a truck ran them over at Khambi Ada near Chaubara city of district Layyah.

Muhammad Shehbaz was riding a motorcycle along with his sister, Arooj Fatima, who sat second year exam at the examination centre when a speeding truck ran them over.

The bodies of the deceased were shifted to the tehsil headquarters hospital by rescuers. The truck driver escaped from the spot.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old girl was burnt by a fire near Karor Road, Hafizabad, in Layyah district. The girl was identified as Halima Bibi. She was shifted to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.
