[Meanwhile, as reported by another agency in Dacca,] East Pakistan Governor Vice-Admiral S.M. Ahsan today [Nov 22] disagreed that the Central Government was silent and indifferent in the matter of last week’s calamity.

He told editors at an informal Press party ... that the Central Government had been in constant touch with the provincial administration in respect of the progress of relief and rescue operation. Besides, he said, he had personally been rendering all the service of the Central Government to the afflicted people in backing the gigantic task of rehabilitation. …

The Governor ... said that there was no intention of the Government to suppress facts. The Press, he added, was free to mention losses from their own assessment....
