ISLAMABAD: The twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi reported another four deaths on Monday, though Covid-19 tally saw a decrease with 224 positive cases being reported from the capital and 26 from the garrison city.

Officials of the capital administration said the reduction in positive cases came after a gap of six days as 249, 322, 333, 357, 411 and 461 positive cases were reported in the capital on Nov 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.

Twenty cases were reported from Bhara Kahu, 16 from G-9, 15 from I-8, 14 from G-7, 13 from Bahria Town, 12 from F-10, F-11 from G-11, 10 from Tramri, nine from F-8, seven each from Media Town, G-10, six each from I-9, G-13, F-7, F-11, DHA, PWD, five each from Soan Garden, Khanna, I-10, G-8, Banigala, four each from Margalla Town, G-14, three each from F-6, Bari Imam, two each from Naval Anchorage, Jinnah Gardens, H-8, Ghouri Town, G-5, one each from G-6, G-15, E-11, D-17 and CBR Town.

The patients who died were on ventilators as their condition was critical, they added.

Twin cities see a drop in positive cases

The number of the active cases in the capital also rose to 3,455, the officials said, adding the tally of the cases in the capital reached 24,218 and so far 20,247 have recovered.

Since the outbreak of the virus in the capital, 257 patients have died.

Rawalpindi

Coronavirus infections rose to 8,606 in the garrison city with 26 people diagnosed with the virus on Monday while two persons passed away. However, 33 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery.

During the last eight months, the death toll from the virus stood at 352 while 7,525 patients have recovered.

At the moment, 10 committees of the health department have been visiting 654 patients who have been quarantined at their homes.

A total of 10,217 people have been tested positive so far in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal whereas 8,961 patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery. A total of 425 people have died in Rawalpindi division so far.

Health authorities warned people against ignoring masks and distancing curbs.

People are ignoring health authorities’ warnings regarding wearing masks while going out of their homes and traders to follow SOPs to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

A large number of people were breaching SOPs, especially in markets, mosques, public transport and work places.

Gujar Khan

Health authorities sealed four high schools in Jhelum district after 12 students and teachers tested positive, CEO health district Jhelum Dr Waseem Iqbal said on Monday.

Government High School Mamyan, Government Girls High School Pind Dadan Khan, Momentum School Khewara and Al-Harmain Excellence School in Saroba were sealed for disinfection.

So far, 19 schools have been sealed after the cases surfaced.

Dr Waseem said 30,818 people in Jhelum have been screened for Covid-19 of them 566 tested positive and 523 of them have recovered while nine lost their lives.

Parents have expressed their concern over postponement of a decision to close educational institutions amid the second wave of coronavirus and said the lives of their children were most important and the educational activities must be shifted to an online system.
