KARACHI: Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar on Saturday briefed a delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan about the progress of the Karachi Transformation Plan and other federal-funded development projects for the metropolis.

The MQM-P delegation called on Mr Umar and Sindh Governor Imran Ismail at the Governor House here.

A spokesperson for the governor said federal Ministers Dr Fehmida Mirza and Mohammedmian Soomro were also present.

MQM-P delegation comprised of senior leaders Kanwar Naveed Jameel, Federal Minister Aminul Haq and Khawaja Izharul Hassan, while MPAs Firdous Shamim Naqvi, Haleem Adil Sheikh, Khurram Sher Zaman of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf were also present.

They made detailed deliberations on various development projects of the federal government in Sindh.

The Karachi package announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan and the projects of sanitation, transport, water supply and drainage also came under discussion.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Ismail said Karachi is the economic hub of the country and any activity taking place in the metropolis affects the economy of the country and that is why the federal government is taking special measures for construction and development works in the city.

He said that the objective of the construction and development activities in Karachi was to restore the glory of the city of lights. The Karachi package is also part of the PM’s vision for the metropolis, he added.

He said that Karachi belonged to all of us and all were jointly responsible for taking steps for its construction and development.

GDA briefed about uplift in Sindh districts

Meanwhile, Minister Umar also briefed members of a Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) delegation about development projects in various districts of Sindh and said that the federal government was in constant coordination with its allies.

Federal ministers Dr Mirza, Mr Soomro, MPAs Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, Arbab Ghulam Rahim and Irfanullah Marwat were part of the GDA delegation.

During the meeting, development projects of the federal government, which are for different districts of the province were also discussed.

The Sindh governor said that the federal government was taking steps for the development of Sindh on the directives of the PM.

He said that the federal government was also considering development packages for other districts on the pattern of the Karachi package.
