I HAVE appeared in many recruitment tests but none has been more nightmarish than the experience I have had recently.
The Pakistan Rangers conducted a physical and medical screening test at its cadet college in Rawalpindi on Sept 6. More than 5,000 candidates were called that day. Naturally, there was a rush but adequate arrangements for the screening process were absent.
The candidates were kept waiting in scorching heat outside the recruitment centre. Small groups were allowed inside at random for physical and medical examination. A lot of candidates waiting in the sun went away without appearing in the test.
I was among those who were lucky to get inside. Here more painful experiences were awaiting us. Some of the recruiting staff behaved arrogantly and a few candidates were pushed around.
The Rangers’ authorities need to revisit their recruitment process and improve it.
