CAIRO: King Hussein of Jordan, Palestinian guerilla leader Yasser Arafat, and other Arab leaders attending a summit meeting here today [Sept 27] signed an agreement to settle the Jordanian-Palestinian conflict, it was officially announced.

The agreement was signed at a meeting tonight of the Arab Heads of State and Government gathered in Cairo since last Tuesday to seek a solution to the conflict. The signing took place after a day of closed door talks attended by the King, who arrived in Cairo this morning, and Mr Arafat, Chairman of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation.

Cairo officials also announced that an inter-Arab military commission in Amman began work today to ensure the maintenance of a ceasefire between the government and Palestinian forces. Amman Radio broadcast… the Commission’s first communique asking all combatants to immediately ceasefire and to allow officers of the commission to take up positions from which to supervise the ceasefire. The military commission is composed of five UAR officers and two officers each from Tunisia, Kuwait, Sudan and Saudi Arabia. …

On the 11th day of the “battle of Amman” the Army is still far from controlling the capital and sporadic fighting is continuing. — Agency
