CHAKWAL: A woman along with her two sons drowned in a pond in Walana village on Tuesday.

According to Rescue 1122 and villagers, Fehmida, 45, along with her sons Umar, 12, and Umair, seven, had gone to to the pond to wash clothes.

They said the woman jumped into the water after she saw her two sons drowning while playing in the water.

“The clothes were lying dry as she had not begun washing them,” a villager told Dawn. He said the woman’s husband was a tuberculosis patient and the family was living from hand to mouth.

The body of the woman was found floating on the water. Villagers recovered the bodies of her sons who had got stuck in the swamp underneath the water.

The villagers said the pond was not deep a year ago. But recently some villagers picked mud from it by digging and torrential rains three weeks ago filled the pond, making it 10 feet deep, they said. Published in Dawn, September 23rd, 2020
