Woman kidnapped, raped in Clifton

KARACHI: A woman was kidnapped and raped in Clifton, police said on Tuesday.

They said that the incident took place on Monday night and the woman lodged an FIR on Tuesday. However, no arrest was made till late in the night.

The police said that the woman, who worked in a Clifton market, after performing her duty was waiting for public transport near the mausoleum of Abdullah Shah Ghazi on Monday night to go home.

Two men travelling in a Vigo kidnapped her, took her to their apartment in Clifton and raped her. Later, they left her abandoned, said SSP-South Sheeraz Nazeer.

The medical examination of the woman was conducted and it was confirmed that she was subjected to a sexual assault, he said, adding that the police lodged an FIR and concerted efforts were under way to arrest the culprits.

Another officer, who wished not to be named, said that the incident occurred at 9.30pm. The woman worked at a market in Clifton.

The officer said that the police had got significant clues about the identity of the rapists and hoped that they would be arrested soon.
