QUETTA: The Government of Baluchistan in a Press note considered that a section of the Press has misinterpreted the Baluchistan Publication of Books (Regulation and Control) Rule, 1970.

According to the Press note these rules are meant for control of re-printing of foreign books or literary works. Moreover it is pointed out that this control was already in force in West Pakistan and the Baluchistan Government had simply adopted it to avoid any legal implication for the control of publication of foreign books in the area of Baluchistan after the dissolution of One Unit.

These rules were considered necessary by the Provincial Government to protect the area from the import of such foreign influence or propaganda which may be considered harmful to the interest of the nation and the state, concluded the Press note. — Agency

[Meanwhile, as reported by an agency in Karachi,] Mr G.A. Madani, former Commissioner of Karachi, in a statement yesterday [Sept 6] criticised the delimitation of constituencies in the City and termed it as highly undemocratic and extremely arbitrary. Mr Madani, while pointing out what he described as glaring anomalies, said that one constituency had only 50,000 voters while the adjacent constituency of Nazimabad has as many as 1,32,000.
