KOHAT: The police on Saturday arrested over 100 suspects and seized arms and ammunition during combing operations in Afghan refugee camps here for maintaining peace during Muharram.

In a statement issued here, district police officer Javed Iqbal said following the directives of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief Dr Sanaullah Abbasi and DIG Kohat region Tayyab Hafeez Cheema, intelligence-based operations were launched in Ublan and Ghamkol camps. He said the police were accompanied by sniffing dogs, lady police, officials of Elite Force, bomb disposal squad and intelligence.

The seizure included two Kalashnikovs, two repeaters, two shotguns, eight pistols, hundreds of cartridges and five hand grenades.

The suspects were shifted to the police stations for interrogation.
