KARACHI: The Meteorological office on Thursday predicted another “strong” monsoon spell in Karachi and other parts of Sindh as well as Balochistan entering today [Friday] that could last till Monday.

A statement issued by the Met office said that a fresh rain system under the influence of the persisting monsoon season could also cause thunderstorm and strong winds in the metropolis and other parts of the province.

“Strong monsoon currents are expected to penetrate Sindh from Friday to Monday,” it said in a brief statement. “Under the influence of this system rain, winds and thundershowers, with a few moderate to isolated heavy falls, are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Lasbela, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Zhob, Musa Khel, Loralai, Kohlu and Sibbi from Friday to Monday.”

Widespread rain, wind-thundershowers were experienced in Sindh, including Karachi and eastern parts of Balochistan, from August 6 to 9 under a monsoon spell that generated urban flooding in the metropolis and Hyderabad. Over a dozen people had died in separate incidents in Karachi as the fourth spell of monsoon rains continued to lash parts of Sindh for three straight days.
