ONE can hardly find any university in Pakistan that does not have state-of-the-art equipment in the laboratories or offices. Students pay a high amount of fees to universities for the knowledge they seek to gain.

A university has two principal functions: providing instruction on matters of intellectual importance and conducting research. Apart from degree courses at the universities, what programmes do our universities have for reading, writing, research and the development of communication skills for students?

It is our dilemma that the majority of the graduating youths do not know how to write even an effective curriculum vitae?

They also do not know how to prepare for interview. These skills are as important as technical knowledge. Students at the university are required to be good at writing, research, and communication skills. These skills play an instrumental role in personal life and profession.

Some people are good at these skills by birth or learn. This enables them to handle issues and problems in a more confident manner in daily life. Likewise, writing, research and communication are the most needed skills at places like a university.

Lack of these skills in students inhibits research.
