RAWALPINDI: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) held a meeting on Wednesday on its plans to highlight Rawalpindi’s heritage, improve living conditions in Raja Bazaar, improve the traffic system and increase tourism.
The meeting was attended by Wild City Lahore Director General Kamran Lashari, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Head of Urban Platform Dr Mohammad Naveed Iftikhar, UNDP research officers Umar Akhlaq, Sundus Shahid and Ayesha Shahid, RDA Director Admin and Finance Khalid Javed Goraya, Deputy Director Finance Mohammad Junaid Taj Bhatti and Deputy Director Planning Mohammad Ijaz.
RDA Chairman Tariq Mehmood Murtaza said that in light of the advice and experience of Mr Lashari, tourism would be increased in Rawalpindi and its cultural significance would be enhanced.
The partnership between the UNDP and the RDA aims to help sustainable development in Rawalpindi’s urban areas, particularly Raja Bazaar. Planning and strategies to increase employment opportunities for the public will be developed to address various issues, such as traffic flow and the protection of historic buildings in Raja Bazaar.
