KOHAT: The Khadar Khel town of the oil-rich Lachi tehsil is without basic amenities of life like water and electricity, the residents complained on Friday.

Talking to reporters, they demanded construction of check dams to resolve water shortage problem.

Former councillor Niaz Mohammad said electricity poles were installed two years ago, but no further work could be carried out since then. The locals said they had to bring water from far-flung springs and wells. They complained that the road leading to the Kohat city and the streets in the town were unpaved.

Rafique Khan, another resident, said the foundation of a hospital was laid two decades ago, but no further progress could be made on the project. He said patients had to be carried to the city hospitals.

He urged federal state minister Sheharyar Afridi and MPA Shahdad Khan to install a solar-powered tubewell to address the water shortage issue.

OFFICIAL VISITS CATTLE MARKET: Kohat division commissioner Syed Abdul Jabbar, during a visit to the main cattle market on Friday, inspected the Covid-19-induced SOPs and directed the officials to keep the traffic flow smooth.

He was accompanied by deputy commissioner Abdur Rehman and assistant commissioner Furqab Ashraf. He went through the cattle market set up on the Bannu Road and checked implementation of the SOPs and other arrangements.
