MIANWALI, Sept 16: Teachers of local government schools continued their strike on the second day on Friday while lady teachers of high and elementary schools also joined them in their struggle. Teachers held an emergent meeting here at the Government High School with Punjab Schools Senior Staff Association vice-president Muhammad Sher Khan in the chair.

The teachers condemned the police highhandedness and the protection they were providing to landgrabbers.

They vowed to continue their strike till the acceptance of their demands, including the withdrawal of fabricated cases against teachers, particularly senior headmaster of the Government High School, Abdul Rashid, and the expulsion of qabza group from the school hostel.

It may be mentioned that the school hostel is situated in the main bazaar and an NGO has illegally occupied a part of it. A few days back, the school headmaster had gone there to take two rooms for the boarding of students but the so-called NGO president, a sugar patient of 61-year old, broken his teeth and got a case registered against the headmaster.

On Thursday last, when teachers and headmaster again went to the hostel, two sons of Samiullah Shah and his armed men pelted stone on them. The police was called out who arrested the headmaster instead of illegal occupants.

Meanwhile, Samiullah Shah said that he had set up a school for the blind children in the hostel and had moved a case for the transfer of the building.

While the police said that an FIR was registered against the headmaster and that they were justified in arresting him.

During his visit to the hostel along with the EDO (community development), the DCO vehemently denied transferring of the government or evacuee property to any NGO.
