GWADAR: A local religious leader, Maulana Irshadullah, was shot dead inside his madressah in Panjgur district of Makran division on Sunday, police said.

Maulana Irshad, who was head of Madressah Ahsan-ul-Madaaris, Chitkan, was sitting in his office when armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on his office.

“Maulana Irshadullah received multiple bullet injuries and died,” a police officer told Dawn.

He said another man sitting with the cleric received bullet injuries. He was shifted to the district hospital where his condition is said to be serious. The attackers fled.

Soon after receiving information about the incident, police and personnel of other law enforcement agencies rushed to the area and shifted the body to the civil hospital in Panjgur. After medico-legal formalities the body was handed over to Maulana Irshad’s family.

The police said the motive behind the murder was so far not clear. However, an investigation was launched after registration of a case. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
