Lahore: Unidentified robbers allegedly gang-raped a young woman who worked at a clinic in Gujarpura area late on Wednesday, and fled away leaving her unconscious in the fields near Saggian.

Muhammad Anwar, an X-ray technician at the Mayo Hospital Lahore, who also runs a part-time clinic in Gujarpura told police that four unidentified gunmen intercepted him and his 18-year-old female assistant near Saggian when they were returning after closing the clinic around 10pm.

He said the gunmen who appeared to be between 28 and 32 years of age brutally gang-raped his assistant in his presence and later fled away leaving her unconscious.

He said the criminals also took away their belongings and warned them against reporting the matter to police, otherwise they would kill them both.

The police, on being informed of the incident, rushed to the spot along with forensic experts and shifted the girl to hospital for medical treatment and examination.

The incident agonised the area people and relatives of the victim who blasted police for failing to check such crime in the city.

They gathered on the road and lodged a strong protest, demanding immediate action against the rapists and the police officials concerned holding them responsible for such heinous crime.

The Gujarpura police later registered a case against the four unidentified rapists on the complaint of Anwar, the clinic owner.

Meanwhile, the inspector general of Punjab police took notice of the incident and directed the Lahore capital city police officer to ensure early arrest of the rapists.
