ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) Vice Chairman Abid Saqi on Thursday congratulated Advocate Saif-ul-Maluk, also a well known human rights activist, for being nominated by International Observatory for Lawyers in Danger (OAID) for the American Bar Association Human Rights Award. OIAD represents France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany, Cameron and Turkey.

Praising the struggle and sacrifices of Advocate Maluk for protection of human rights, Mr Saqi said: “International recognition of his services and contributions for protection of human rights, especially those that belong to deprived segments of society, is a matter of pride for Pakistan.”

Advocate Maluk is the lawyer who represented Aasia Bibi before the Supreme Court, against the 2010 death sentence, awarded to her by a trial court in a blasphemy case.

Mr Saqi appreciated OIAD for nominating Advocate Maluk for the prestigious award.
