LANDI KOTAL: Six labourers died after inhaling poisonous gas while digging a well in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber district on Friday.

Rescue 1122 officials said at least nine labourers were digging the well in Walo Mela village with the help of a power generator. They said all of them fell unconscious due to toxic fumes released by the generator. “All of the unconscious men with six of them in critical condition were retrieved from the well after the Rescue 1122 staff was called by local residents, they added.

The officials said the six in critical condition later died in hospital.

Meanwhile, the district administration gave away cheques of Rs300,000 each to the heirs of the dead persons while cheques of Rs150,000 were given to the three injured persons.
