Focal person for the public health reference laboratory at Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar Prof Jawad Ahmed has tested positive for the coronavirus.

Ahmed, who is also a professor at Peshawar University told Dawn.com that his wife and mother have also tested positive. He said that he was on duty during the Eid holidays but his family had gone to their village where they might have contracted the virus.

“I have to go to KMU in the morning and return home without any contact with people. We receive papers along with samples at the KMU for testing. Samples go directly to the lab while papers go to registration area. Those who collect samples might have touched the papers which can be a potential source of transferring infection,” he said.

A lab technician and 13 of his family members have also tested positive for Covid-19. The technician had gone to his village on Eid.
