KASUR: Kot Radha Kishan police on Sunday arrested a man and lodged a criminal case against him on charge of blasphemy at a Ghandian Road locality.

According to police, the suspect had burnt the Quran for black magic.

Sub Inspector (SI) Shabbir Hussain said police had received a call to report that the suspect was burning the pages of the Holy Quran for black magic. When police reached the spot, the suspect was performing black magic with a large knife and other things on the burnt pages of the Quran. Police arrested him and collected the things related to the crime.

Police lodged a case against the suspect under Section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 13-2(a) of the Punjab Arms Amendment Ordinance 2015.

According to police, the suspect was released from jail a few months back and he was behind the bars in the murder case of his father. The suspect had divorced his wife a few days after his marriage.

DEATH: A woman who was allegedly tortured by her husband for not bearing a child at village Mudhkay Dariwal near Kot Radha Kishan succumbed to her injuries in Lahore on Sunday.

The death sparked a protest by the relatives of the victim at Hindal Chowk against police for not lodging a case against the suspects. The protesters alleged that police were also reluctant to hand over the body to the family.

They burnt tyres and threw traffic out of gear by blocking the road at Hindal Chowk. The protest was in progress when this report was filed.

According to the complainant, Shamim Bibi was tortured severely by her husband, Muhammad Javaid, on Thursday and threw her in front of the gate of her parents at village Mudhkay Dhariwal in critical condition. The injured was rushed to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Kot Radha Kishan where the doctors referred her to Lahore. She died in the provincial capital on Sunday.

Shamim’s brother, Muhammad Babar, said the couple was issueless and Javaid used to taunt and torture his wife over the issue.

The protesters demanded arrested of the suspect after registration of a case against him. They also demanded the body of the victim to be returned to the family.
