KARACHI: The Sindh Forensic DNA and Serology Laboratory (SFDL) at Karachi University (KU) will complete the process of identifying the victims of the PIA air crash in the next six to seven days.

This was stated by the International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), KU, adding that the laboratory has completed a total of 16 cross matches so far and their reports have been dispatched to the Sindh police.

A spokesman for the ICCBS said: “The SFDL with the help of 20 scientists and volunteers is currently engaged in identification of unfortunate victims of the air crash.”

According to SFDL statistics, as many as 67 samples have been received from the families of the victims while 69 samples of the victims from the police so far.

The SFDL is specialised in detection, identification and analysis of human DNA from evidence samples collected by law enforcement agencies from crime scenes. It is set up at the Jamil-ur-Rahman Centre for Genome Research, which works as part of the Dr Panjwani Centre for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research at the KU.
