Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood has expressed regret that instead of joining forces to look for a way to defeat the novel coronavirus, lawmakers have criticised the government's approach.
While speaking on the floor of the National Assembly, he said that the opposition lawmakers should "thank God" that Pakistan's condition is not as bad as European countries, where thousands have died.
He further said that while the government has shut down marriage halls, transport, schools etc., a blanket lockdown will have a devastating effect on lower-income people.
"They [the opposition] say there is confusion. Is taking care of poor people confusion?" he asked.
