TAXILA: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases increased to 60 in Attock with five new positive cases reported on Sunday.

On the other hand, 33 confirmed patients recovered and were discharged in the district.According to data of the district administration, four of the new cases, including two women, were close contacts of patients who had already tested positive.

District focal person for Covid-19 Dr Asif Arbab Niazi confirmed registration of four new cases. One of the new patients, an 80-year-old woman is mother of a man who has already tested positive for the coronavirus.

The other is a 44-year-old woman, who is sister-in-law of the patient. He said both the women were shifted to the THQ hospital and in stable condition. He said the two others were close contact of a resident of the city who had also tested positive.

He said one of the patients was shifted to the district headquarters hospital and the other kept on isolation at the Wapda office.

He said 33 positive cases, including two members of the Tableeghi jamaat, had recovered and discharged.

Taxila

Three more tested positive in Taxila, taking the number of total patients to 49.

Health department officials said two of the newly-detected patients belonged to Taxila and were infected by their family members who had already tested positive.

The officials said a 22-year-old man from Inyat Shahi village was diagnosed with the virus on Sunday as his mother had tested positive on May 4 and was under treatment at Wah General Hospital.

The other tested positive is a 21-year-old man from Madni Mohalla whose father had tested positive and was under treatment in Rawalpindi.

The third patient is a 38-year-old man.

Assistant Commissioner Mohammad Faheem said 355 suspected cases were reported in the tehsil out of whom 49 tested positive, 156 negative and results of 180 were awaited.

He said 24 patients were under treatment in different hospitals while three of them were home quarantined.

“Out of the 49 confirmed cases, 18 recovered and were discharged from isolation wards while four died of the virus.”

Mr Faheem said the health authorities had made arrangements to accommodate 625 patients in Taxila. Wah General Hospital can accommodate 18 patients, tehsil headquarters hospital seven while University of Engineering and Technology (UET) has the facility to accommodate 600 patients.

He said 277 suspected patients were quarantined at the UET and 24 of them were symptomatic, 253 asymptomatic, two confirmed and 35 released from quarantine.
