There was no edition of the newspaper on March 20, 1970 on account of Yaum-i-Ashura. The following excerpt is from the previous day’s edition.

PESHAWAR: Four Jet fighters of the Indian Air Force violated Pakistan’s airspace in Shakargarh area of Sialkot district yesterday [March 17] afternoon, an official announcement said here today. Fighter interceptors of the Pakistan Air Force were scrambled and on seeing them the intruding aircraft withdrew into the Indian territory. Pakistan is lodging a strong protest to India against the violation of her airspace. — Agency

[Meanwhile, according to an agency in Dacca,] Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, Chief of NAP, has appealed for Government, businessmen and industrialists to come forward and “save peasants and workers from a serious food crisis now prevalent In the Province”.

In a statement released here last night [March 17], the Maulana said the price of rice has registered a sharp rise and there was no arrangement for Government relief. ... Maulana Bhashani, who is also Chief of Krishak Samity, said due to faulty records by Settlement officials, the peasants and his Samity members were being “wrongly implicated in litigations and quarrels over possession of land”.
