KASUR: The Lahore High Court has restrained Pakistan Railways from auctioning park here.

About 10-kanal land of the ladies park was likely to be auctioned for lease for a period of five years to build a marquee. Scores of women from adjacent localities including Kot Usman Khan, Kot Murad Khan, Kot Rukindin, Kot Badardin and Nafees Colony use to visit the sole park in the city. Entry of men in the park is prohibited.

The municipal committee had been handling all the administrative affairs of the park since its establishment in 1985. The park was rebuilt and renovated in 90s at a cost of millions of rupees.

On Tuesday, scores of traders and members of civil society led by Saleemur Rehman and Asif Ali Khokhar staged a protest demonstration and chanted slogans against the railway authorities for its move to auction the ladies park situated in the heart of the city.

Traders on Railway Road, Circular Road, Nia Bazaar, Haji Farid Road and Lalyani Chowk observed a partial shutdown strike against the railway plan.

BREACH PLUGGED: Villagers on Tuesday plugged a 50-foot wide breach that occurred in a local canal at Radaykay village near Sara-i-Mughal in Pattoki.

On Monday night, the breach inundated crops besides damaging the building of a government dispensary of the village.
