LAHORE: The Punjab University on Thursday held a ‘surprise day’ to pay tribute to the Pakistan Air Force.

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad and MPA Mussarat Jamshed Cheema jointly led a rally and chanted slogans in favour of the armed forces for proving supremacy over India on Feb 27 last year.

Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saleem Mazhar, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, heads of various departments, faculty, employees and a huge number of students participated in the rally.

The participants were carrying banners and posters in support of the PAF.

Prof Ahmad said on Feb 27 last year Pakistan had given a message to the international community that they were a responsible nation.

Earlier, PU VC Prof Niaz Ahmad and MPA Jamshed Cheema cut a cake to commemorate the first anniversary of ‘Surprise Day’.

Later, the PU Centre for South Asian Studies organised a seminar at its auditorium to recall the success achieved by the armed forces over Indian forces. A lecture was delivered by retired Brig Imran Malik and comprehensively covered the events leading to the Balakot incident.

GCU: A ceremony was held here at the Government College University to celebrate the ‘Surprise Day’ as a tribute to the Pakistan Air Force for downing the Indian aircraft last year.

GCU faculty members arranged the ceremony where they along with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi cut a cake to celebrate the operational preparedness of the armed forces.

UET: The Institute of Business and Management (IB&M) of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) organised the projects exhibition of final year students.

More than 150 final year students had showcased their 30 projects at the exhibition.

UET VC Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar, IB&M Director Prof Dr Shoaib along with deans and chairmen participated in the exhibition.

The VC along with faculty members visited all the stalls set up for promoting business management education. He said the talented students were actively participating in creative tasks with outstanding performance.

UMT: The University of Management and Technology held a seminar to create awareness about drugs.

UMT Director General Abid HK Shirwwani, Anti-Narcotic Force (ANF) Regional Director Brig Rashid Minhas, Former Secretary Narcotics Prof Sohail Ahmad, Head Office of Security Safety and Vigilance (OSSV) retired Maj Ibrar Hussain and large number of students participated in the seminar.

Mr Shirwwani said the youth should recognise their responsibilities to play a role in the development of the country and should avoid drugs.

Mr Minhas said efforts were being made to make educational institutes as well the society drug free.
