OKARA: The disputed election result for the office of president of the District Bar Association (DBA) remains unresolved, as the seven-member arbitrary committee could not reach a conclusion even after 10 days of efforts.

The committee, headed by Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) member Mian Muhammad Shafique Bhandara, left both rival presidential candidates, Chaudhry Farooq Ashraf Sangoka and Muhammad Ramzan Nadeem Channar, to make a decision.

Mr Bhandara told this correspondent that he was unable to announce the decision after the PBC executive committee member, Azam Nazir Tarrar, referred this dispute to the DBA committee to settle the issue to maintain cordial relations among the bar members.

After polling for the DBA president’s election on Jan 11, the election board could not announce the results as the ballot bag was taken away and the election board cosignatory chairman, Chaudhry Shahid Hameed, got a case registered against the Sangokas and at midnight declared Ramzan Channar and six other office-bearers’ results.

However, the second cosignatory chairman announced the result of only the president, declaring Farooq Sangoka as the winner. Since then both ‘presidents’ were enjoying the status.
