MINGORA: At least four people died and two others suffered severe injuries when a four-storey under-construction building collapsed in Mohallah Khona Gul at Green Chowk here late on Thursday night.

The rubble of the collapsed building fell on the neigbouring residential houses. The four dead belonged to same family who were asleep in a neighbouring house which was completely destroyed.

The deceased were identified as 36-year-old Inayatullah, his wife Shama, 29, and their two children Zarak (5) and Hirah (3).

Two others, including Naheeda and her son Mohsin who sustained injuries, were in another neighbouring house which was partially damaged by the collapse.

All the bodies and the injured were retrieved from the rubble by the Rescue 1122 team and taken to Saidu Teaching Hospital.

According to locals, Inayatullah was vehicle spray painter and lived in the rented house.

“Two days ago the under-construction building had tilted to one side and it was risky, but the owner did not inform residents of the neighbouring houses,” said Matiullah, brother of Inayatullah.

An official in TMA said that owner of the building, Rahmat Ali, had not approved a building plan for its construction.

Additional deputy commissioner Zameen Khan said that inquiry had been launched into the incident.

Police filed an FIR and had arrested Rahmat Ali and Mohmmad Afzal.
