BAHAWALPUR: Seven people, including three minors, were killed in accidents during or after the rain on Monday, while 13 others were injured across the province.

Two people, including an infant, were killed within 24 hours around Bahawalpur city. According to Rescue 1122 sources, pillion-rider Muhammad Sajawal, 25, was run over and killed by a tractor trolley near the railway overhead bridge at Zagheera on Sunday night.

They said that Sajawal along with two others was going to Dera Masti from Bahawalpur on a motorcycle. As the vehicle slipped due to rain, Sajawal fell on the road and was run over by a speeding trolley whose driver managed to escape. Samasatta police registered a case against the driver and took Sajawal’s body into possession for postmortem.

Separately, a year and a half old girl also died in a rain-related road accident. A couple and their infant daughter were passing by an open sewerage system in Tibba Badar Shair on a motorcycle, which slipped due to the wet road. All three fell into the open sewerage line. The couple was rescued, while the baby drowned and her body was retrieved by locals.

Later, residents demonstrated against the municipal corporation for leaving the disposal works open.

Commissioner Asif Iqbal Chaudhry had already announced closing down of open disposals and to convert them into parks and playgrounds for Rs4 million.

LODHRAN: Two minor siblings died after the roof of their house collapsed in Khanewal on Monday.

According to Rescue 1122, the roof of a house collapsed due to the recent rains in Chak 94/10-R because of which two siblings were trapped under the debris. A rescue team reached the spot and recovered them, but the minors died. The deceased were identified as Ammara, 3, and Ramzan, 2.

In another roof collapse incident, a man and two women were injured in Nawan Shehr Kabirwala, Khanewal. A Rescue 1122 team recovered them and shifted them to Kabirwala Civil Hospital. The injured were identified as Kiran, Mehnaz and Ijaz.

According to a press release, Khanewal Deputy Commissioner Agha Zaheer Abbas Sherazi directed all district departments to stay alert in the rainy season.

KASUR: Three people died in two separate road accidents on Monday.

A van hit a tractor trolley from the rear side as it slipped while applying brakes at Habibabad overhead bridge. Muhammad Imran and Khalil Ahmed died on the spot.

In another incident, Muhammad Asif was crushed to death near Allahabad on Deepalpur road when the motorcycle he was pillion riding on slipped due to wet mud on the road and he was run over by a tractor trolley. Police were looking into the matter.

Four women were also injured in two separate incidents of roof collapse. Two cattle heads also died.

Sajida Bibi, 20, Rehmat Bibi, 47 and Tahira Bibi, 16, sustained injuries as the roof of the room they were sitting in caved in due to rain in Ali Park locality.

Separately, Maria Bibi, 18, of Kilchaywala village sustained serious injuries when the roof of the cattle pen she was cleaning caved in. Two cows died instantly.

Rescue 1122 personnel and locals recovered the injured from the debris. She were rushed to DHQ hospital for treatment.

SHEIKHUPURA: Five people were injured in two incidents of roof collapse with two of them serious in and around Nankana city.

In Madina locality, Irshad and his wife Shahnaz were injured after the roof of their house caved in due to heavy rain. They were shifted to the DHQ hospital.

In village Khokran Pind in Nankana district, Seema Bibi, her son Ali Haider and daughter Chandi suffered injuries and were shifted to nearby hospital. Rescue 1122 spokesman Ali Akbar said that all the injured were shifted to hospital on time. Warburton police were looking into the matter.

LAHORE: A young man received minor injuries after the roof of his house caved in during rain on Bedian Road on Monday.

The roof collapsed on Monday evening when Allah Rakha, 29, was in a room, while the other members of his family were in another part of the house. When he got trapped under the debris, the family alerted Rescue 1122.

A Rescue 1122 spokesperson said the teams recovered Allah Rakha from the debris and rushed him to a local hospital with minor injuries. He said the teams completed the operation within an hour and handed over the premises to the police for further investigation.
