LAHORE: The Working Committee of the Convention Muslim League, West Pakistan, today [Dec 15] called for the merger of Karachi with Sind. The resolution was adopted at the Committee’s meeting, which was attended by Malik Mohammad Qasim, Mr Zain Noorani and other Conventionists from Karachi.

The resolution said Karachi should be merged with Sind as it was historically and geographically a part of Sind. The Working Committee requested the Government to reject outright the demand to make Karachi a central area as this would deprive the people living thereof their say in administration and would make them “political orphans”.

The Working Committee of the Karachi Zonal Muslim League Council has “strongly” condemned the move by “some interested and selfish sections” suggesting that Karachi should be made a centrally administered area. Through a resolution, the Committee said that Karachi was “no less advanced and democratic” than any other part of the country and could not therefore accept “hegemony of the Centre in the provincial sphere”. It expressed that no discrimination shall be made by the Government against Karachi in respect of autonomy and that it would be “placed and treated on the same footing as any other part of the country”. — Agency
