QUETTA: The government of Balochistan and the federal Ministry of Defence have reached an agreement on Gwadar Shipyard Project, a component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor mega project.

This was revealed by Chief Minister of Balochistan Jam Kamal Khan Alyani in a tweet. He said that the Gwadar Shipyard Project would help promote economic activities in the province.

“With the initiation of Gwadar Shipyard Project, it will create huge number of employment for the youth of Balochistan. Economic and financial activities of the province will become better,” the CM said in his tweet.

He said that a training programme would also be arranged for the youth, particularly engineers, of the province, at Karachi Shipyard, prior to their appointment at the Gwadar Shipyard Project.

CM says project will promote economic activities in province

“Gwadar Shipyard Project would create huge employment [opportunities] and [help in] economic uplift for the Balochistan province and economy,” Jam Kamal said.

A piece of land measuring 750 acres has been demarcated for Gwadar Shipyard Project by the Gwadar Development Authority. Once completed, it will make Gwadar Shipyard the largest in Pakistan.

The defence ministry has been asked by the Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production to expedite completion of Gwadar Shipyard.

Two days ago, Federal Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal arrived in Quetta and called on Chief Minister Alyani at the CM Secretariat. She briefed the chief minister on the progress of work on Gwadar Shipyard Project.
