SWABI: As the sowing of wheat begins across the district, the agricultural officials have asked growers to use quality seeds to get good yield.

The officials also said the farmers should use tractor to plough fields.

Baswar Ali, a major grower in Pirtab village, said though some fields had maize crop, most growers had begun sowing wheat there.

Farmer Safdar Khan said the agricultural officials had asked growers to irrigate wheat crop 20 days after bud growth.

He said the use of modern technology would help the province become self-sufficient in wheat production.

The growers claimed that whenever wheat flour crisis hit KP, Punjab immediately stopped supply causing flour shortage to the misery of residents.

DEBATE CONTEST: A three-day parliamentary debate competition concluded at the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology on Monday.

Around 200 students of universities and colleges participated in it.

The participants highlighted the significance of extracurricular activities and said if such activities were organised, the students deliver the goods. Shields and certificates were given away to the best debaters.

Also, the three-day All Pakistan Mathematics Olympiad, 2019, was held in the GIK Institute. Over 200 students from countrywide universities and educational institutions, including girls, participated in the event.

Adviser to the GIK Mathematics Society Prof Ghulam Shabbir gave away shields and certificates to the winning teams.

Later, a hiking trip for participants was arranged.
