ABBOTTABAD: The lawyers have resented the growing robbery incidence in the district and warned that they would stage street protests if the police didn’t check robberies.

They also demanded the immediate arrest of robbers and recovery of stolen goods.

In separate statements here the other day, the District Bar Association, High Court Bar Association and Pakistan Bar Council lashed out at the police over failure to protect public property. The District Bar Association met with its president, Asad Khan Jadoon, in the chair.

The participants demanded the immediate arrest of the robbers, who took away cash and jewellery from the houses of lawyers Atif Khan Jadoon and Qaiser Ayub Afridi in the broad daylight lately.

The High Court Bar Association also held a meeting in which the participants flayed the police over failure to check daylight robberies.

They demanded the inspector general of police, KP, and deputy inspector general of police, Hazara range, to ensure strict action against the negligent police officials.

The participants asked the top police bosses to closely monitor the law and order situation in the district for corrective measures. They said the people felt themselves unsafe, so the lawyers would decide about their future course of action after 24 hours.

Vice-chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council Syed Amjad Shah also complained about the growing street crime incidence in Abbottabad.

Resenting the recent robberies in the houses of lawyers Atif Khan Jadoon and Qaisar Afridi and theft of a car of lawyer Malik Amjad Ali, he said the police’s failure to arrest culprits had rendered public life and property vulnerable.

Mr Shah condemned the growing robberies and said the failure to arrest culprits exposed the inefficiency of police.

He demanded the early arrest of robbers for punishment.
