TAXILA: The chehlum of Imam Husain was observed amid heavy security in the Wah Cantonment and Attock on Sunday.

The event marks the culmination of a 40-day mourning period after Muharram 10, the day Imam Husain and 72 of his companions were martyred in Karbala in 680 AD.

Security arrangements were made for mourning processions held in the city to mark the day.

The main Zuljinah procession was taken out from Imambargah Haider Road in the Wah Cantonment. Layered security with army and police personnel was provided to participants.

The procession concluded peacefully after passing through its traditional route.

The main procession in Attock was taken out from Imambargah Panjatani. Sabeels and food stalls were set up on the procession routes under surveillance by security personnel.

The participants prayed near Fawara Chowk led by Maulana Shakari, and the procession ended at the Markazi Imambargah Hussainia Kamalpur Syedan in the Attock Cantonment.

Strict security measures were taken by law enforcement agencies for the processions. Routes were marked with barbed wire and police personnel were deployed on rooftops.

A mobile medical team from the Attock District Headquarters Hospital and Rescue 1122 provided treatment to mourners and remained on standby in case of any emergency.
