HARIPUR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s central leader Ahsan Iqbal has insisted that 2020 is the election year in Pakistan and that the PML-N will return to power with a majority as the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government has failed to turn around the economy.
This he said while speaking to participants of a convention of party workers held at the residence of former provincial minister Qazi Mohammad Asad here on Friday.
Mr Iqbal accused Prime Minister Imran Khan of following foreign agenda with a special task of destroying the country, its economy and sabotaging the CPEC project.
“We have demanded a probe into who exactly is funding the PM for achieving these tasks,” he said, adding the premier’s statement regarding training of Al-Qaeda operatives by Pakistan’s military in Afghanistan had exposed his “anti-Pakistan hidden agenda”.
Ahsan Iqbal said the PM corroborated the statement of Indian premier which he made in Houston accusing Pakistan of promoting terrorism.
“It (Al-Qaeda) is a Middle Eastern phenomenon and has nothing to do with Afghanistan,” he said, accusing Imran Khan of “ridiculing” the brave armed forces of Pakistan. He said the way PM projected the case of Kashmir was another proof of his “hidden designs”.
The PML-N leader said that during his UN’s visit the PM had spent his time and energies on proving that the country was insolvent and that he was the only “Mr Clean”. But in fact he failed to muster the required support of international powers for the Kashmir cause and it was evident from the 16 votes he could bag instead of 56 that he claimed to get at the world body.
About the foreign debts that PML-N government obtained during its last tenure, Mr Iqbal said that his government had built motorways, launched CPEC and brought to an end the energy crisis, thus providing relief to general public from the excessive loadshedding.
Former information minister Mariam Aurangzeb and senior party leaders, including Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Amir Muqam, Raja Faisal Zaman, Babar Nawaz Khan, Habibullah Treen and Qazi Asad also spoke on the occasion.
