KHAR: Officials of the security forces here on Saturday called upon the religious leaders to play their role in promotion of peace and harmony in the region.

“Ulema and religious leaders are the most influential segment of the society, hence we request them to play their due role in promotion of peace and stability in the district,” said Pakistan Army sector commander North Brigade, Brig Ghulam Mohammad Malik, and Commandant Bajaur Scouts Col Rahman Qadar while addressing the ulema convention at Bajaur Scouts headquarters here.

Brig Malik noted that some elements in the region were using mosques and seminaries for misguiding the people. He asked the ulema and religious leaders to counter such elements who had been sabotaging peace and stability in the region by spreading hate in the society for their vested interests.

Other speakers termed peace and stability essential for socio-economic development of the region.

Maulana Zakirullah, Maulana Mohamamd Laiq, Maulana Waheed Gul, Mufti Ihsanul Haq, Mufti Hanifullah, Maulana Ahmad Noor, Maulana Sahibul Haq, Maulana Idrees and others addressed the convention.

They vowed to speed up their efforts to counter “the anti-peace and anti-community elements” in the region. They said that those spreading hate were not uelma, because the job of religious leaders was to promote peace and tolerance in the society.
