BUNER: Around 1,500 fruit saplings were distributed to 75 farmers of Krapa union council in Daggar tehsil here on Tuesday.

A local rural development organisation had arranged the saplings with the financial support of the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund.

DC Said Nawab Khan, director (agriculture extension) in Buner district Murad Ali Khan, Daggar assistant commissioner Lateef Khan, tehsil municipal officer Afsar Ali Khan, PPAF representative Shaheen Azmat and RDO chairman Hakimzada distributed saplings to farmers after they agreed to the relevant terms and conditions.

The speakers said the activity was meant to facilitate fruit farming in the area and improve the farmers’ living standard by increasing income through fruit farming.

The DC said the distribution of saplings was very useful towards improvement of modern farming.

He said stakeholders deserved high appreciation that turned towards facilitation of farmers.

The DC said agriculture sector was back bone of national economy and most of our population depends on agriculture sector.

He said the time was ripe to focus on improvement in farming by adopting modern ways of farming through modern equipments.

The DC said traditional farming won’t feed the growing population especially when the agricultural land was shrinking due to domestic and commercial constructions.

He asked local organisations to prepare proposals for attracting donors to invest in agriculture sector.

The DC said the district administration would work out papers to attract donors. He asked the director (agriculture) to play due role in this respect.
