BAHAWALPUR/FAISALABAD: There is an abrupt rise in the number of dengue patients at the special ward of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) where 25 such patients were admitted during the last 24 hours.

BVH Medical Superintendent Dr Azizur Rehman confirmed to Dawn that 22 patients were tested positive for dengue fever and they were being treated in the an isolation ward. He said out of 22, three were admitted on Friday while others had been tested in the emergency ward last night.

Mr Rehman said most of the dengue patients had come to Bahawalpur from Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad during the Muharram holidays.

He agreed that current situation was alarming but they were doing everything to provide every possible treatment to dengue patients.

The MS also confirmed that a new Congo virus patient had also been admitted to the BVH emergency ward for treatment. The condition of the Congo patient earlier admitted to hospital was stable.

25 patients admitted to BVH in 24 hours

In Faisalabad too, the number of patients suffering from dengue fever is increasing as eight such patients arrived at the Allied Hospital in the last two days, raising number of dengue patients to more than 30.

Except one patient, identified as Umair Shahid, an employee of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, Islamabad, all the patients belonged to Faisalabad.

On Wednesday, 14-year-old Aryan had died of dengue fever at the Allied Hospital.

The hospital sources said an isolation ward had been set up and the entire management was on high alert to take care of the dengue patients. Some of the patients have been discharged after their condition got stable.
