VEHARI: A newsman working for a TV channel was found dead on Thursday, five days after he went missing.

Zafar Abbas, 40, was working for 7-News from Mailsi town, 25km from here. His body was found in a dry well at Mauza Kali Shah within the jurisdiction of Mitro police station.

Rana Akram, the station house officer of Mitro, told Dawn that Mr Abbas was returning home late night from the Kot Malik area on Sept 7 when he went missing.

Mitro police registered a kidnapping case on his family’s request against unidentified people. On Thursday, a passer-by informed the police about the body in the well near a local graveyard.

The SHO said his family identified the body. He said on the recommendation of his family, the police detained seven suspects for interrogation. He said an autopsy was conducted at the Mailsi civil hospital and its report was awaited to know the cause of his death.

The SHO said some samples of Mr Abbas’s body had been sent to the forensic lab.
