KARACHI: A newly married couple was found dead in the Frere area on Wednesday, said police.

They added that the bodies of Sharif Masih, 28, and his wife, Erum, 30, were found in their home in Pak Jamhooria Colony near Kalapul.

The bodies were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors said that the woman had been strangled with a rope, said Dr Seemin Jamali, executive director of the hospital.

The police said that the body of Sharif Masih was found hanging from the ceiling and they believed that the man had committed suicide by hanging himself.

It was the second marriage of the woman, whose first husband had died, the police added.

She married Masih around a month ago and her two children from her first husband were also living with her. The family was in financial difficulties and used to quarrel with each other, said police officer Shahid Amin quoting the eight-year-old daughter of the woman as saying.
