BAHAWALPUR: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shozeb Saeed has issued orders to send a written complaint against the officials concerned of the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) to the chief secretary and PFA director general allegedly for their unsatisfactory reply over their performance and clarification in this regard.

The DC issued these orders during a high-level meeting he chaired here on Tuesday regarding provision of unadulterated food to consumers and measures to supply hygienic potable water to students.

According to an official handout, during the meeting when the DC asked the PFA district officials why no action was taken against non-checking of all the manufacturing and sales units of food and kitchen items, the explanation offered was deemed insufficient by the DC. He ordered that a written complaint be sent against PFA officials to the chief secretary and the PFA director general.

Sources said that the DC’s query was regarding the checking of ghee units. The DC directed all the relevant government departments to monitor the preparation, manufacturing of edibles and kitchen items, their marketing and sale in all five tehsils of Bahawalpur district and ensure high quality free from adulteration.

In the meeting, health department officials briefed the DC about the process for testing drinking water under hygienic principles for students of educational institutions in the five tehsils. The DC directed the officials to utilise all available resources and warned that no negligence would be tolerated.

Meanwhile, the district development committee, in its meeting presided over by the DC, reviewed the projects for building of additional classrooms in government schools in the district under the Punjab Education Initiative Management Authority. The meeting was informed that under this programme, two to four additional classrooms would be constructed for Rs82 million in 25 government schools.
