RAHIM YAR KHAN: Police arrested a doctor and his friend on charges of blocking a road and misbehaving with traffic wardens.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening when Dr Athar of Lahore General Hospital, who was visiting Rahim Yar Khan during Eid holidays, along with his friend Abbas was driving his car in the wrong lane.

When wardens Muhammad Ishfaq and Aleemuddin stopped Athar at Railway Chowk, the doctor misbehaved with them and threatened them with dire consequences. One of the wardens recorded a video of the incident and uploaded on social media.

The wardens also seized a repeater gun from Abbas during checking of the car. City A division police registered two first information reports against Athar and Abbas under sections 341, 506-B, 353 and 186 of PPC and under Section 13-2(a) of The Punjab Arms Amendment Ordinance 2015.

According to police sources, the suspects were treated as ‘special guests’ at the A division police station due to their influence and kept in a retiring room. Later, when the traffic wardens expressed their reservations, the suspects were shifted to a lockup.

However, police spokesperson Zeeshan Randhawa denied according any special treatment to the suspects.

Investigation officer, SI Shafaqat Ali, told this correspondent that both the suspects were sent to jail when area magistrate gave their judicial remand on Sunday.
