LAHORE: In a communication addressed to the Finance Department of the Government of India on the subject of Sterling Balances, the Secretary of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, Lahore says: “It is of imperative importance that this burning problem should receive serious consideration of the Government of India so that the misgivings that have crept into the minds of the nationals of this country on account of agitation in a certain section of the British Press may be removed.”

“My Committee feels that this can only be achieved if these Balances are liquidated and utilised in a manner to be decided upon mainly by Indians according to their future need and requirements for establishing and extending industries which will help to improve the standard of living.”

He adds that this question has assumed nation-wide importance “for upon its proper determination depends the national economy of India after the war”.

[Meanwhile, as reported by another agency in Cawnpore,] A gun and some live cartridges were recovered from the possession of Poona and Kali, residents of the village Ghatabara at the Sikandara police station, Cawnpore district. — Dawn Delhi
