GUJRAT: The district police officer (DPO) dismissed from service the former station house officer (SHO) and a sub-inspector of the Kunjah Police Station for according protocol to the suspects involved in attack, kidnap and torture of the former provincial minister Mian Tariq Mehmood Dinga.

The former SHO, Inspector Sarfraz Anjum Sekhu, and Sub-Inspector Sohail Asghar were earlier suspended from service on the same charges.

According to a spokesman for the Gujrat police, one Numan Ikhlaq and his accomplice were nominated in the case of abduction and torture of Mr Dinga, the former PML-N MPA and minister, and they were detained at the Kunjah Police Station.

SHO Sekhu and SI Sohail Asghar, who were the investigating officer in the case, had reportedly kept the suspects in the latter’s room instead of keeping them in the lock-up.

The video and photographs of the suspects enjoying meals with the suspects in a private room had gone viral on social media, raising many eyebrows and bringing a bad name to the police department.

The DPO took notice of the matter and immediately suspended both the officials. He had appointed the Saddar DSP as an inquiry officer who submitted his findings on Thursday, declaring both the officers guilty and recommending legal action against them.

At this, the DPO issued the order for dismissal of both the officials from service.
