ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Ashab Irfan on Thursday caused a major upset in the Penang Junior Open Squash Championship eliminating fifth seed Hong Kong’s Au Lap Man to move into quarter-finals of U-17 contest.

Ashab defeated Man 3-1 (11-7, 5-11, 11-9, 11-5).

Meanwhile, junior Pakistani players Abdullah Nawaz and Huzaifa Ibrahim after defeating their opponents also moved into the quarter-finals in the U-13 and U-15 events respectively on Thursday.

In the U-13 fourth round match, Abdullah defeated Malaysian Aden Igwan while in U-15 Huzaifa also beat a Malaysian Veroon Hang.

Two other Pakistani players, Humam Ahmad and Mohammad Hanif lost their fourth round matches in the U-15 events. In the U-19 event, Naveed ur Rehman lost his fourth round fixture against Darryal Gan Zi of Malyasia and in the U-17 girls event, Amna Fayyaz was beaten Malaysia’s Wong Heng Wai.
