CHITRAL: The three-day Shandur polo festival will start here on Sunday with a match between Laspur (Chitral) and Ghizar (Gilgit-Baltistan) teams.

Deputy Commissioner, Lower Chitral, Khurshid Alam Mehsud told Dawn that Chief Minister Mahmood Khan would inaugurate the festival as the chief guest.

He said six polo matches between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan were the major events of the festival, while traditional games and cultural shows

have also been included in the itinerary of the festival.

The vast field of Shandur pasture has been converted into a tent city, which is given a panoramic view by the three-kilometre-long Shandur Lake.

Hundreds of tourists have arrived here to proceed to the venue of the festival, which is at a drive of six hours from the city.

The hotels in the Chitral city have already been packed to their capacity due to influx of tourists to witness the Shandur festival.
