KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday issued notices to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other respondents on a petition of former federal minister Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) seeking removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL).
The former minister, currently serving as an adviser to the Sindh CM on prisons, through his lawyer had moved the court and contended that the name of the petitioner was placed on the ECL with mala fide intention and on political grounds.
The lawyer also argued that the court had already ruled in some cases that the names of suspects could not be put on the ECL at the stage of inquiry. Mr Jakhrani is facing a NAB probe for allegedly owning assets beyond his known sources of income.
A two-judge bench headed by SHC Justice Mohammad Iqbal Kalhoro issued notices to NAB and other respondents to file their comments till July 9.
Another bench on Monday sought a report about the approval granted by the cabinet regarding transfer of a money laundering case related to the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation, a charity wing of the MQM to Islamabad.
