TAXILA: Following two days lock down of the academic block, sit-in and strike, the government finally appointed Prof. Dr. Inaytaullah Khan Babar as permanent Vice Chancellor of University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Taxila.

Prof. Babar was former vice chancellor of Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan and at present is working as Chairman of Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Peshawar.

According to a notification issued by higher education department, Punjab, Mr Babar has been appointed as VC for a period of four years.

Mr Babar on Tuesday assumed the charge and after a marathon meetings with students, he convinced them to call off strike and lift the siege of the academic block and resume academic activities.

With the return of normalcy to the university, the administration has decided to resume examination from Wednesday.

The meeting of students’ representatives and university administration beaded by new VC decided that issues faced by 2017 batch would be addressed and a policy in this regard would be formulated.

The meeting decided that hostel and student committees would be made functional again, besides creating a grievance resolution system, where complaints against students, staff, faculty and admin could be lodged.

The three-member committee investigating the student’s death would submit its report to the VC on Wednesday.

A meeting of foreign students with Vice chancellor is scheduled to be held on Wednesday (today).
