UPPER DIR: Two women of a family drowned in River Panjkora when a chairlift broke down in Patrak area here on Sunday.

Local residents and police said the victims belonging to Chinaran area of Sheringal were crossing the river in the chairlift, and when they reached in the middle the chairlift’s ropes broke and it fell down into the river. As a result, both the women drowned.

The bodies were recovered in Salol area, some 18 kilometres downstream. The victims were identified as wife of Bahadar and his niece.

Meanwhile, residents of Patrak protested against the elected representatives for failing to construct a bridge over the river in the area.
